Magyar Suzuki, the Hungarian unit of Japanese car maker Suzuki, will not lay off workers at the company’s factory in Esztergom (North of Hungary) in spite of the decision to discontinue production of Opel Agila at the plant,said the company’s communications manager.”If a model is out of production, then we will able to produce another models in place. It is important that in addition to the Agila, Suzuki Splash is made here, and not a pre-planned cessation of production of the model”.

The Opel Agila is co develope by Opel and Suzuki that start sale since 2000.The first generation Agila is rebadge of Suzuki WagonR wide or WagonR plus and second generation is goes on sale since 2008 which is a sister model of Suzuki Splash/Ritz.The Agila is unable to hit sale target that more than 100,000 unit a year in Europe and this could be part of reason for Opel to discontinue the car earlier than the plan to replace it with Opel’s engineer’s Sub-b segment car in 2014.

Suzuki have been lanuched Kizashi in Japan and extended it to the USA, Australia and more recently parts of Europe.
Next stop is Britain and while this well-appointed model is deemed by Suzuki to be a niche product – they hope to sell around 500 – potential buyers can rest assured they will be getting a car of genuine quality and style.

Tested and tuned in areas as diverse as Death Valley and English country lanes with the precision of BMW and Audi as the benchmark, the Kizashi will only be available in a single specification with a 178PS 2.4-litre petrol engine under the bonnet.

Nor will there be any manual gearbox as the company has decided to go with an automatic CVT continuously variable transmission set-up with steering wheel-mounted paddles for manual shifts.

Suzuki is claiming an average fuel figure of 35 miles per gallon and 191g/km of CO2 for an offering that is predictably well specced up – the likes of leather upholstery, electric heated front seats, cruise control, sunroof, keyless entry, air-con, CD player and seven airbags included on every car.

The left-hand drive model available for evaluation confirmed that Kizashi is a car with the dynamic qualities and punch – 0-62 in 7.8 seconds – to match its sporty looks.

Suzuki is also considering bringing a 4×4 version of the popular Swift hatchback to Britain, a prospect sparked by increasingly bad weather over the past few winters.

The company feels that if it gets the green light this version of the Swift – already on sale in Scandinavia and Germany – will be ideal for people who don’t want a full-blown 4×4 but do fancy its capability.

Unlike the Kizashi’s i-AWD system, the Swift has permanent four-wheel drive and if it comes to Britain, expect there to be a few styling tweaks.

In updating its entire range, Suzuki has either refreshed or improved the economy of the Splash mini-MPV, SX4 crossover, Jimny 4×4 and larger Grand Vitara models.

Most notable is the funky little Splash which gets the same 92bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine that was introduced into the Swift range last September. It’s noticeably quiet at tickover, provides useful performance and can return 55.4mpg with emissions of 119g/km, the same as the 1.0-litre init.

The SX4 now has a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre DDiS diesel engine offering improved performance, better fuel economy and prices for the SZ3 1.6-litre petrol version.

And both the chunky Jimny with its cult following and the Grand Vitara now come with Euro 5 compliant engines plus reduced CO2 levels.

Suzuki has also dispensed with the rear-mounted spare wheel on the Grand Vitara, though the company is considering introducing a lower spec model for people who still want that time-honoured feature.

As competition in the upper A2 segment of compact cars hottens up, Maruti Suzuki’s Ritz comes out with an edge over the other cars in the segment in terms of first year sales numbers. The car, launched in May 2009, has sold 68,130 units during the period from May 2009 to April 2010.

While the Ritz sold over 68,000 units, the Hyundai i-20 sold 31,318 units during December 2008 and November 2009, Skoda Fabia sold 7,383 units during January to December 2008, the Honda Jazz sold 7,850 units in the first eleven months between June 2009 and April 2010, claimed a Maruti Suzuki release. The Ritz has managed to beat the Maruti Swift, that is the highest selling car in the segment selling over 1.1 lakh units annually for the last two years. The Swift which has sold 4.5 lakh units since its launch around five years back, had managed to sell around 57,738 units in its first year (May 2005 – April 2006).

Maruti is the market leader in the upper A2 segment with its Swift and Ritz, with a market share of around 80 per cent. The company enjoys a 60 per cent market share in the entire A2 segment.

What’s new?

This is the first time we’ve driven the 1.2 Splash in the UK – the only petrol engine Suzuki currently offers in this model.

Its better balance of power and economy means buyers are unlikely to miss the other petrol 3cyl 1.0-litre option Vauxhall offer in the Splash’s sister car, the Agila.

What’s it like?

With 85bhp the 1.2 feels keen in town and adequate on the motorway. While the Splash is only a ruler length longer than a Toyota Aygo, the high roofline gives a feeling of spaciousness and although the boot isn’t massive, the rear seats fold into a flat, tall load bay with ease. The cabin is attractive with its red, backlit dials, despite an absence of soft touch plastics.

The Splash looks good against its competition too. Air con is standard across the range as is ESP, which is a cost option on the pricier top spec Agila.

Should I buy one?

Yes, if you’re in the market for a versatile five-door city car with elevated seating that’s well equipped, cheap to run, a doddle to park and easy to get the kids and grandma into.The Splash is so much more interesting, striking and accomplished than its predecessor, the boxy Suzuki Wagon R, that it’s hard to imagine that the two cars have come from the same company. It is an all round excellent package, and fine value, too.

Magyar Suzuki, the Hungarian unit of Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation, will begin produce next generation Suzuki Swifts at the company’s plant in Esztergom (North of Hungary) following the annual summer production shutdown, the daily Nepszabadsag reported on Friday.

Suzuki will introduce the next generation Swift at the Paris Motor Show in September.

Nepszabadsag said that Magyar Suzuki will not, however, manufacture next generation Opel Agila at the plant. Opel Sales Director Alain Visser told the newspaper that the company will make the new Opel Agila in Germany.

Citing data from auto-research company Jato, the newspaper noted that Magyar Suzuki manufactured nearly 60,000 Opel Agilas last year.

Nepszabadsag has also learned that Audi Hungaria, the Hungarian unit of German vehicle company Audi, plans to expand operations at its plant in Gyor, including further development of the Audi Hungaria motor-development center.

Audi Hungaria communications official Monika Czechmeister told the newspaper that the company had manufactured 6,000 vehicles during the first two months of the year, Audi Hungaria’s pre-crisis production level. Ms. Czechmeister said Audi Hungaria’s current stock of orders suggest that the company will produce 80,000 more motors in 2010 than in 2009.

Maruti Suzuki exports Ritz (Splash) to South East Asia
Maruti Suzuki India has announced that they have begun exporting their Ritz (Splash) small car to the South East Asian countries.

The first batch has been sent to Indonesia.

Maruti already export their A-Star (Suzuki Alto) hatchback to Europe for sale under the Suzuki brand.

A company representative said: “Indonesia is a prime destination for Ritz. On Wednesday, the first lot of 500 units of Ritz, sporting 1.2 liter petrol engine are being dispatched to Indonesia.”

In India, Ritz is offered with 1.2 liter petrol and 1.3 liter diesel engines.
MSI, which had originally launched the compact car for the domestic market, said Ritz will be basically targeted at the South East Asian markets and hopes to make it a poster boy of its overseas sales.

The move to target South East Asian markets with Ritz comes on the heels of its flagship export model A-Star (Suzuki Alto) crossing the one lakh units mark for exports in December, within 11 months of starting overseas shipments.

The A-Star (Suzuki Alto) is exported to 44 countries, predominantly in Europe, along with Philippines, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

“A-star (Suzuki Alto)and Ritz (Splash) represent important steps by an Indian company to emerge as a car manufacturer with global appeal. It is in line with parent Suzuki Motor Corp’s vision of turning India into a global hub for compact cars,” the official said.

MSI already has a comparatively goods market in Indonesia with a cumulative export of 11,145 cars of various models so far.
