Maruti Suzuki Launched five new models with CNG option

As it battles rising competition, Maruti Suzuki drove in five new models with CNG option, including its best-seller Alto. The company will offer factory-fitted CNG cars, and the models are priced at a premium of about Rs 50,000 to the petrol-only version. Maruti’s market share slipped below 50% after the launch of compacts from Ford, Volkswagen and GM.

Apart from the Alto LXi (Rs 3.23 lakh), other models to sport CNG option are Estilo LXi (Rs 4.05 lakh) and WagonR LXi (Rs 4.11 lakh), Eeco 5-seater multipurpose (Rs 3.64 lakh) and SX4 VXi sedan (Rs 7.47 lakh).

The CNG variants are priced approximately Rs 50,000 to Rs 90,000 more than their non CNG versions, but it is the first time that the kits are being fitted at the factory. The advantages of a factory fitment are they are safer, covered under warranty and suffer minimal power loss.

“CNG offers lower running cost of up to 60 per cent while it ensures lower import of oil and also lower emission levels,” said Shinzo Nakanishi, managing director and CEO, MSIL.

Maruti Suzuki has unveiled its flagship CNG engine technology dubbed ‘intelligent-Gas Port Injection’ technology’ or i-GPI. This technology will be implemented on five models.

The technology is a dual engine control unit that delivers gas to the engine to ensure improved and consistent performance under a variety of driving conditions. The quantity of compressed natural gas required for different driving conditions is controlled by the dedicated unit which offers more efficient fuel usage.

It also means there is more power when compared to retrofitted compressed natural gas vehicles and there is a peppier ride more reminiscent of a petrol engine.
Each vehicle has passed quality checks and customers will enjoy the full warranty benefits, including an extended warranty.
The Government of India has committed to developing a network of compressed natural gas stations across the country in an effort to reduce the reliance on foreign fossil fuels.

Currently there are 9.4 lakh CNG cars in the country with around 600 outlets, where as other countries such as Pakistan has over 3,000 filling stations and around 50 per cent of all vehicles are run on CNG.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Testdrive Review.

Maruti has launched a new variant of its best selling model, the Alto K10. The new variant brings along with it some fresh styling and also gets a new powerplant. The 1-litre K-series engine which is already doing duty in the A-star, Estilo and the new WagonR finds its way into the Alto as well.
The 1-litre K-series engine has replaced the existing 800cc unit in the top variants of the Alto. However, the base variant, LX, will still be available with the older 800cc motor.

On the outside, angular headlights coupled with a bigger grille lend the new Alto a bold, mature look. The restyled rear with new tail-lights looks modern and gels well with the overall design. And the increased length gives the Alto a more purposeful stance.

On the inside, the new steering wheel looks nice and grips your hands well. The dials look more upmarket and are easy to read. The dashboard is unchanged but there’s too much of grey plastics and some of the materials look low-rent. The vibrant seat colour livens up the otherwise drab-looking interiors. While the low seats make getting in and out cumbersome, the new front seats are similar in design to the A-star’s with integrated headrests. While the comfortable seats offer good support, they lack under-thigh support. Seat bolstering isn’t that great and you tend to get thrown around when the driver gets a bit enthusiastic. Despite the increased length, interior space hasn’t increased and the headroom remains poor. The boot is decent considering the car’s size.

The 1-litre twin-cam motor produces a healthy 67bhp and 9.18kgm of torque and is an improvement, despite some vibrations at idle. The throttle responses have improved drastically. The lively, rev-friendly engine is hugely flexible and a thrill to drive. Overtaking on the highway is much easier now and only a shift or two is needed to accelerate with gusto.

The Alto K10 now reaches 100kph in a very brisk 15.46 seconds, 4.92sec faster than the older car. The cable-shift gearbox is slick and precise but the throws are a bit long. The new Alto’s compact dimensions and light steering are terrific for parking in tight spots. All-round visibility is good. Ride at low speeds is decent, and the Alto easily soaks up most road undulations. There’s a fair bit of body roll when you go around a corner in speed, but the car still feels safe. However, the light steering is uncommunicative at high speeds. Stability at high speeds, though improved, isn’t great yet. Fuel efficiency is expected to be class-leading and better than other Marutis sharing this engine, thanks to the Alto’s light kerb weight.

The new Alto LXi is priced at Rs 3.19lakh while the VXi variant, which has power steering, air-conditioning, front power windows, internally adjustable mirrors and body-coloured bumpers retails at Rs 3.32lakh (prices ex-showroom Mumbai). Frugal and fun is what the new Alto is all about.

Maruti Suzuki launched an automatic transmission variant of the A-star on 15th August, 2010. auto majors are completely aware of the rising automatic demand . Joining the automatic version of i10 and Santro in the Indian market.

the company is intent to persuite urban slicker and judging by the sales charts, A Star is one of the most popular models in the Indian youth today.

The four speed automatic gearbox is fit with the KB10 engine. according to ARAI data the automatic A-Star is return a mileage of 17 kmpl, which is just a little short of the 19.8 kmpl that the manual offers under ARAI test conditions.

Priced at Rs. 4.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), it is one of the most affordable hatchbacks in its segment.

Maruti Suzuki will launch India-made global model in 2014!
Maruti Suzuki, India’s No.1 car maker is getting ready to make India as a global design hub as the plans are a foot to roll out an India-made global model in the next four years. Maruti is working on its first made-in-India car for the domestic market and it is expected to be rolled out in the next few years.

During the launch of Alto K10, Maruti Suzuki managing executive officer, Mr I.V. Rao stated that in 2014, the company is likely to introduce a model that is not just meant for the Indian market, but will also go for the more developed markets like Europe and Japan. He added that in order to boost Maruti’s research and development capabilities in India, the company has hired 1000 engineers.

Maruti is aiming to design small cars for Indian market based on the customer preferences. The company is gearing up to launch a new model by end of 2012. Although, the model will be exclusively designed, it will inherit the platforms from existing models. The yet to be launched new model will be in A2 segment with an anticipated price tag of Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh.

Maruti launched the Alto K10 which is more powerful and equally fuel efficient like the company’s largest selling model Alto. Maruti will launch CNG versions of Alto, WagonR, Zen Estillo, Eco and SX4 on August 13 and will foray into the luxury car segment with a new sedan Kizashi in first half of 2011.

Maruti Suzuki, India’s No.1 car maker is gearing up to launch five cars with factory fitted CNG kits during the second week of August 2010. This aggressive move reflects Maruti’s commitment to better environment as well as to stay ahead of competition among its rivals.
Maruti will launch CNG variant of Alto, Estilo, Wagon R, Eeco and Sx4. According to MSI Chief General Manager (Marketing) Shashank Srivastava, the CNG models will be very important inMaruti’s portfolio. Maruti Suzuki is the first company to come out with factory-fitted CNG cars and Maruti will have the first mover’s advantage in the market.

Maruti will launch all the five CNG cars on a single day in the second week of August because there is no particular segment for CNG cars unlike other models, which can be specified into different strata and this is a launch of ‘ factory fitted CNG’ technology and not cars. Besides the launch of five CNG versions, Maruti will launch Alto K10, a new variant of Alto with 998 cc K series engine.

Maruti to resume sale of LPG version of Duo till time new WagonR LPG gets ready

Maruti also informed that it is very unlikely that the LPG version of new WagonR will be ready to deliver into the market this year and therefore decided to resume the sales of Duo with LPG.

It is clear that Maruti Suzuki does not want to loose on sale of its LPG variant until the new version gets ready. It is also interesting to know that Duo was contributing about 20-22 percent of total WagonR sales which is 10,000-12,000 units per month. Maruti made an announcement of its decision to resumes the sales of Duo LPG and Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Chief General Manager (Marketing) Shashank Srivastava said, “We are now selling the ‘Duo’ and it will continue till the LPG variant of the new WagonR is ready. The work on new LPG is going on.”

Though Maruti had earlier made it clear that the company will stop the production of Duo and any decision to launch the LG variant of the new WagonR will depend entirely upon the market demand. And now it seems that Maruti has found all the good reasons to launch new WagonR in LPG and resume the sales of Duo with LPG version.

Maruti’s much awaited powerful Alto called “Alto K10″ will be launched in August. but before that know the specifications,features, variants, colours and everything you want to know about the Alto K10. To cater to the customers who want no compromise on performance,style,features, style and attitude in the entry level car segment. Maruti believes Alto K10 will redefine the segment as Swift did in the premium hatch segment.

Engine and Transmission

Maruti Alto K10 is built on the same platform the existing alto (called Alto F8). There are not much mechanical changes except for the retuning of suspension and booster assisted braking system. The new stuff is the all new K10 engine which Maruti already uses in A-star, Estilo and Wagon-R. The K-series under the hood of Alto K10 produces 68PS of maximum power at 6200rpm and 90Nm of maximum torque at 3500rpm. Remember, these figures are astonishing when compared to current alto which generates just 47PS of peak power.On the other side, Alto k10 has gained just 50kgs because of the new engine. Result, Alto K10 reaches 100kmphs in 13.3 seconds as opposed to 17.3 seconds by alto.

Even though the power ratings have improved, Maruti claims the Alto K10 returns a mileage of 20.3Kmpl under standard conditions which is marginally better than the current alto. Like the new Wagon-R, Maruti Alto k10 also gets the new cable type transmission for smoother gear shifts

Exteriors

Maruti Alto k10 is 125mm longer to accommodate the K10 engine. The front fascia is different with a dynamic hood, eagle eyed clear lens headlamps and body coloured bumper. Alto k10 also gets swanky fog lamps. The side profile remains largely unchanged except for the 13″ inch wheels and body side mouldings.Alto k10 also gets nice looking wheel covers. The rear gets a new designed back door and fresh tail lamps.

Interiors

Those who bothered about utilitarian Alto interiors can now rejoice. Alto k10 gets two tone interiors with lot of usable features and design elements. The decade old two spoke steering wheel is replaced with three spoke wheel. Maruti has borrowed the 3-spoke steering wheel from the A-star. Integrated headrest for front and rear passengers is a radical change. The instrument panel is refreshed with amber illuminated speedometer, tachometer and an electronic trip-meter.

Features

Alto K10 comes with long list of much needed features like power steering,internally adjustable ORVM, key reminder, remote boot opener (reminds you if you left the key in the lock itself), central locking, power windows, rear parcel tray, accessory socket, remote fuel lid opener and electronic trip meter

Colours

Alto K10 will be available in six colours – ecru beige, midnight black, fire brick red, blue blaze, silky silver and superior white.

Maruti will launch the Alto K10 in the first week of August. Maruti plans to sell the current alto with the new Alto K10 and believes the dual-model will further boost the sales numbers. Expect the pricing of Alto K10 to be very competitive.
