Maruti’s production of K-series engine exceeds 300,000 unit in 19 month,now holds more than 50% share in Indian car market.

India’s biggest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, said it has exceeded the highlight of producing  300,000 unit  K Series engines, its most advanced engine which powers new variants, including A Star, Swift, Swift Dzire and Ritz.

The record was achieved within 19 months of launching the engine series in India, a top company official said.

The official said, “Going forward, the K-series engine will play a key role in Maruti Suzuki’s strategy in consolidating its leading position in the Indian automobile sector”.

Besides the cars which already use the K-series engines, it will be slowly used in other models over a period of another 3-5 years, he added.

MSI presently holds more than 50% share in Indian car market. Previous fiscal, it sold 765,526 units from a total of 1,526,787 units of passenger cars sold in the local market.

Maruti Suzuki has 2 models of the K series engines — 998cc three-cylinder, ‘K10B’ used in A-star, Estilo, and the new WagonR and a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder ‘K12M’ petrol engine used in Ritz, Swift and Swift Dzire.

Besides the K Series, MSI also has other engine series like the F Series used in the M800 and Alto, G Series used in multi utility van Eeco and the M Series used in sedan SX4.
