India car sale report in March 2010 by brand

Car market leader Maruti Suzuki recorded an 11% rise in total sales at 95,123 vehicles in March 2010 when compared with the same month last year. The QoQ figures declined 2%.
The country’s second largest carmaker Hyundai Motor India reported its highest-ever domestic sales at 31,501 units and posted a jump of 27.26% over the same month a year ago.
In a statement, the company said it had sold 24,754 units in the domestic market in March 2009.
The domestic sales of the company is the highest since 1998, when HMIL launched its flagship small car Santro.
The company’s total sales soared by 19.23% to 55,035 units against 46,159 units in the year-ago period.
Tata Motors reported sales of 642,686 units – the highest-ever for the company – in 2009-10.
Sales (including exports) of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in March 2010 totalled 75,151 vehicles, a growth of 38% over 54,452 vehicles sold in March 2009.
Domestic sales were 71,046 units, a 35% growth over 52,653 units sold in March last year.
General Motors India has registered a record growth of 127% in sales in March, 2010, compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 11,330 units in March 2010 against 5,001 units in March last year recording an all time high in monthly sales. The company has sold 31,862 units in Q1 of 2010 as against 13,859 units in Q1 of 2009, achieving a growth of 130%.
Ford India’s overall March sales more than tripled from the same month a year ago, rising 203% to 9,478 units.
The Ford Figo has received more than 10,000 orders less than one month after it went on sale, a new Ford India record. In response to the strong demand, Ford India will launch a second production shift at its plant in Chennai, a company release said.
Fiat India Automobiles today announced a growth of 33% in sales for the month of March 2010 over March 2009. Fiat India’s total sales (including exports) in March 2010 stood at 2,361 as compared to 1,780 vehicles sold in March 2009.
Hero Honda, the country’s largest two-wheeler maker, today reported 17.35% rise in sales at 4,14,638 units last month, the best-ever figure reported by the company for the month of March.
The company had sold 3,53,342 units during March last year, Hero Honda Motors (HHML) said in a statement.
HHML registered a cumulative sales of 46,00,130 units during 2009-10, against 37,22,000 units in the previous fiscal, up 23.59%, it added.
TVS Motor Company has posted a growth of 24% in March 2010. Significant contributions across all segments have resulted in a total two-wheeler sales of 146,736 units when compared to 118,000 units in the same month of the previous financial year, according to a release from the company.
Cumulative growth for 2009-2010 stood at 15%, with sales of 1,521,912 units against 1,325,754 in the previous year.
Domestic sales grew 25%, registering sales of 126,669 units in March 2010 when compared to 101,660 units in March 2009.
Two-wheeler maker Suzuki Motorcycle India reported a jump of 76.13% in its sales in March at 21,752 units, on the back of good response to its new products.
The company had sold 12,350 units during March 2009, Suzuki Motorcycle India said in a statement.
