Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reported a 33.3 per cent rise in sales in January
Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reported a 33.3 per cent rise in sales in January at 95,649 units, vis-a-vis 71,779 units in the corresponding month last year. Domestic sales witnessed a jump of 21 per cent at 81,087 units compared to 67,005 units in the same month year-ago. The company’s exports also shot up by a whopping 205 per cent at 14,562 units 4774 units during January’09. For April-January, sales grew 31.8 per cent to 826,592 units over the like period in last fiscal.

Maruti’s sales in the compact car (A2) segment comprising Alto, Wagon-R, Zen, Swift, Ritz and A-Star grew 24.8 per cent at 58,540 units from 46,889 units in January 2009. The sales of its models in its mid-sized (A3) segment comprising SX4 and D’Zire shot up by 36.5 per cent from 6,590 units in January 2009 to 8,995 cars in the same month this year. However, the company’s only model in the A1 segment, M800, saw its sales plunging by 55.2 per cent to 2,494 units in January.

General Motors, which has struggled to gain momentum in India since it started operating in the country in the late 1990s, also reported its best-ever single-month sales in January, selling 9,420 units, an increase of 139 per cent over January last year.
