Maruti Suzuki to hire 950 in 2010-11, Second production line( 300,000 unit/year) soon at Manesar plant .
Maruti Suzuki said on Friday that it plans to hire 950 people in 2010-11 for various roles and levels.
“We will add around 950 employees in 2010-11. Out of these 350 will be to the shop floor, and the rest will be hired from domestic engineering and management institutes. We’re expecting to hire around 330 freshers. The hiring will be for various roles including management of the supply chain for the new line at Manesar and the R&D team,” Mr S. Y. Siddiqui, Managing Executive Officer, Administration (HR, Finance & IT), Maruti Suzuki, told Business Line.
The company employs about 7,500 people.
“December has seen very high demand. We have a waiting period on models including the Swift, the Swift Dzire, the Wagon R and even on the Ritz in some places. At the moment, we’re working at full capacity with two shifts. I think we’re touching one lakh production annually across both the factories,” he said.
The country’s largest carmaker is also hiring from overseas, especially for key technical roles, where local talent is not easily available.
“Due to the slowdown in the global auto market and the excellent performance shown by the domestic industry, a reverse move of talent can now be seen in the industry. We have hired around 10 people in the last two years from the US, Europe and Japan, especially for the R&D team. In a few years, we’re looking to be totally independent in terms of R&D. We will hire more internationally as we find more talent,” he added.
Second production line( 300,000 unit/year) soon at Manesar plant .
Maruti Suzuki, which operates two plants in the National Capital Region (at Gurgaon and Manesar), is soon expected to add a second production line at its Manesar factory.
According to company officials, the capacity at the Manesar factory, which is 300,000 units a year from the first line, may be nearly doubled with the second line.
The Gurgaon facility has an installed capacity of seven lakh units a year.
“The decision on the investment and the capacity of the second line at Manesar will be taken up at the board meeting on Saturday (23 jan 2010). It has been agreed in principle, but a final decision is pending,” said Mr Siddiqui.
